WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury hosted Wright State University Lake Campus on Friday evening at their home field in Wilmore, Ky. This pitchers duel was tied up until the bottom of the sixth when AU got their first run and did not look back tacking on 4 more runs to take the victory in game one, 5-1.Â
Walker Paris took the mound in his fourth start of the season for what ended up being his best performance so far. Paris went 8 complete innings for the Eagles only allowing 1 run, striking out 8 and allowing no free passes. This would give the AU offense enough time to catch up to the Wright St. Lake starter, Ryan Barker, who went 6 complete innings before the Eagles got to him in the 6th and 7th with 3 runs.Â
Asbury scored their first run in the 6th off of back to back doubles from Walker Paris and Kaiden Zacharias. In the very next inning, a Cam Weaver triple and Matthew Baker singled allowing AU to extend their lead to 3-0. The Eagles weren't done as they added 2 more runs in the 8th scored by Nathaniel Frank and Colton Perkins to move the lead to 5-1. Bryce Barber came out of the bullpen in the 9th to close this one up, moving the Eagles to 6-5 on the season.

* Walker Paris was incredible on the mound pitching 8 complete innings with 9 strikeouts (3-1 on the year) and went 3-4 with 2 doubles from the plate
* Matthew Baker had two hit day going 2-4 with an RBI, Baker also threw out an attempted base stealer that was a key play in the game
* Bryce Barber came out of the bullpen to close the door in the 9th and seal the victory

* The AU pitching staff produced 11 strikeouts on the night and only allowed 1 walk (9 from Paris)
* The Asbury defense was rock solid with only 1 error in the game
* AU scored 4 runs in the last three innings of the game when they were needed the most

"We put together a strong performance on all fronts which was exactly what we need to get back on track. Our offense hit the ball hard all game, so we knew it was a matter of time before they starting falling. We had no panic and were able to come through in the second half of the game. Our pitching and defense did exactly what we needed to win the game."
   * Junior Catcher, Matthew Baker
