WINONA LAKE, In. --- For the fourth time this season the Asbury men's basketball team and Alice Lloyd met on the court. This time it was on day three of the NCCAA Tournament, with fifth place in the tournament hanging in the balance. AU knocked down 15 three pointers to come away with the victory over Alice Lloyd to finish off the 2021-22 season, 86-82.Â
The strong AU offense picked up right where they left off against Ecclesia, scoring 48 points in the first half on 11 made three pointers. On the other end of the court Asbury's defense was stingy throughout the entire first half, only allowing Alice Lloyd 25 points.
The Nick Fort and Eric Powell tandem put on a show in the first half, going a combined 11-17 from the field, 7-9 from three, and 32 points between the two. A fitting glimpse of the entire season as these two have had career campaigns. Will O'Bryan also went 3-3 from three in the first half.Â
The second half was a different story as the number 1 seed in the tournament Alice Lloyd found their stride shooting 64% from the field, and making an incredible run to get back in the game. Despite the Alice Lloyd push, a strong second half from John Shoulders scoring 10 points on 4-6 shooting for AU and late free throws from Dakota Walden were enough to hold Alice Lloyd to give AU the victory.
Asbury finishes the 2021-22 season with 16 wins, an NCCAA Mideast Player of the Year in Nick Fort, and a fifth place finish in the NCCAA National Tournament. The Eagles won two out of their three games in the NCCAA tournament, and were in a position to knock off the 2 seed in their first game. After starting the season at 1-6, this team has shown incredible resilience, hard work and talent to put together this impressive season.Â

* Nick Fort led the Eagles in scoring with 24 pts on 8-18 shooting, knocking down 4 threes with 10 reb and 4 ast (Fort finishes the season with an amazing 17 double-doubles)
* Eric Powell put together his third solid game of the tournament with 20 pts, 7-13 from the field with 5 three pointers, 5 reb and 3 ast (Powell made 5 threes in each game in the tournament and scored a combined total of 69 pts)
*Â John Shoulders was 5-10 with 13 crucial points to help AU get the win
* Dakota Walden stuffed the stat sheet with 11 pts, 4 reb and 2 ast

* Asbury made 15 threes as a team in the game, leaving them with 32 made threes as a team in their three games at Winona Lake
* Asbury scored 48 points in the first half, which proved to be enough of a early start to hold Alice Lloyd off
* The Asbury defense turned Alice Lloyd over 9 times

"This was a great way to finish the season and build momentum for next season. It was even more sweet that it was a win against Alice Lloyd. We had guys play very well and everyone was locked in. Not many teams end the year on a win so doing that is a great feeling!"
