Releford Leads Eagles Past Covenant to End the Year, 71-40

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- 12 of the 14 Eagles grabbed points in today's matchup against Covenant College, led by Haleigh Releford with 14, to end the year with a win, 71-40.

Jaclynn Ruble sat behind Releford with nine points and led with four assists, a season-high. 

Abigail Harris led Asbury's defensive stronghold with six steals, a season-high. Harris helped the Eagles grab 26 steals, a new season-high for the team. 

From tip-off, the Eagles controlled the game. Jaclynn Ruble and Trinity Shearer both recorded six points in the first quarter, aiding to AU's 22. Asbury's defense started strong with seven steals in the first, and held Covenant to seven points, ending the first AU up, 22-7. 

Asbury continued their drive and pressed harder to hold the Scots to just four points for the second, all while putting up buckets, with another 19 scored by AU. The second ended with AU at a comfortable 41-11. 

The Scots came into the third looking to change the tide of the game. Covenant shot an impressive 70% in the field and 100% past the arc. Despite Abigail Harris grabbing four steals, and AU putting 14 up, Covenant outscored Asbury with 18 points in the third. AU still held their lead at the end, 55-29.

Covenant was led by No. 22 Abby Witt with eight points and six rebounds. 

Asbury went into the fourth, looking to finish the game strong, and put up another 16 with Releford contributing a quarter of those points. Covenant attempted to retaliate but was only able to score 11, and the Eagles found their win, 71-40. 

Cheyenne Fullwood grabbed her first two points of the season today.

AU forced Covenant to an impressive 33 turnovers and grabbed 31 points off of them. The Eagles held their largest lead in the fourth by being up 33 points with 6:23 left to play.

With Asbury's impressive game today, they move to 9-7 for the end of the year.
