#TeamAU Featured Alumni: Will Sallee | Class of 2010

.

WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury Athletics has announced this month's #TeamAU Alumni Feature, presented by KEMI (Kentucky Employers' Mutual Insurance), highlights a former Asbury student-athlete, Will Sallee, class of 2010. Will was a member of the Asbury Swimming team from 2006-2010. Throughout his time at Asbury, Will attended Asbury University on a swimming scholarship and qualified for the NAIA National Championship meet all three years of his career. His best event was the 100 breaststroke where he placed 14th at the National Championships.

"Will was a great teammate, solid competitor, and brought a lot to the team during his time at Asbury. It's really cool to see where God has taken Will and his family serving the Lord!"

Alex Keyser, 2011-2021(22) Head Swimming Coach

What were the years of your time at AU?

2006-2010

What was your major and what sport did you play?

Media Communications, Swimming.

How did God use Asbury to impact your life?

My life is entirely different (and better) because I went to Asbury. Many of my closest friends are from my time at AU. I met my wife at Asbury (although we dated and were married years after graduation). Additionally, nearly every job I have had is because of a connection to someone I know from my time at Asbury. Aside from those things, God used my four years at AU to develop my faith as I lived in Christian community. Even as I completed my degree in Media Communications, God confirmed my calling to cross-cultural missions. God has used my degree, the life skills I learned while on the swim team, and so many other formational experiences while I was at AU to make me a better person, husband, father, and cross-cultural worker.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

I have always loved David's song of praise to God in 2 Samuel chapter 22.
It's encouraging and makes me feel like I can conquer whatever challenge or hardship I am going through because it reminds me that,
2 "The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer."
My favorite section from the chapter is 2 Samuel 29-30 which says, 29 "You, LORD, are my lamp; the LORD turns my darkness into light. 30 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall."

What is your current occupation?

I am a cross-cultural worker in Spain.

What is your favorite Asbury athletics memory?

All of the NAIA National Meets, and I particularly enjoyed going to San Antonio for NAIA Nationals my freshman year and watching my teammate, Kerry (Hancock) Shearer '07 win the first National Championship for Asbury Swimming in the 200 Butterfly. We all have fond memories of that trip and of walking along the River Walk and enjoying San Antonio.

Why would you encourage anyone to attend Asbury University?

Asbury was the most formative place for me in my walk with the Lord. I think it's a great place for young adults to experience God in new ways apart from their families of origin. At Asbury you can grow in your faith in Jesus and be challenged to join God in His mission to the world while pursuing any number of career fields. The old AU model of "Start Here, Impact the World" really is true. You will not regret your choice to go to Asbury and like me, you may find it's one of the best choices you could have ever made.
