LAGRANGE, Ga. --- The Asbury Women's Basketball team traveled to LaGrange, Ga., this afternoon for a 2 pm tip-off against the LaGrange Panthers. The Eagles held a lead over the Panthers for the majority of the game until LaGrange pushed back in the fourth quarter, scoring 26 points and ultimately taking the victory.
Jaclynn Ruble led the Eagles in points with 17 (season-high) and
Trinity Shearer was right behind her with 16.
Kayla Harlow and Ruble stood tall under the rim with Harlow having 11 rebounds and Ruble nine.
For most of the first quarter, the Eagles stayed on top of the Panthers with a slight pushback late in the first. Up until the fourth, the Eagles held the Panthers to around a 12 point lead.
Defenses led the way in the first as AU took the low-scoring quarter 17-14.
AU began to explode during the second quarter with Ruble recording nine points and going 3-5 from three.
Emma Strunk helped lead that push with seven points scored on 3-3 FG and a three.
Trinity Shearer added five points to help AU to their strongest quarter of the game with 25 points.
Asbury put another 22 up on the board during the third all with help from Shearer, Ruble, and
Haleigh Releford. Releford recorded 2-4 FG and a three to aid the Eagles to their largest lead of the game with a 21 point advantage over LaGrange. AU took a 61-52 lead heading into the fourth.Â
In the fourth quarter it was LaGrange scoring a game-high 26 points on 9-18 shooting. The Asbury offense that had been electric all day struggled in the fourth as they only managed to score nine points in the quarter.
Despite the AUÂ strong lead throughout the game, the convincing LaGrange fourth quarter pushed them past Asbury to complete the comeback for a 78-70 win.

"That was the 2nd toughest loss of my coaching career here at AU. We were up 21 points about midway through the third quarter and lost the game. That is unacceptable on my part and on the teams part. LaGrange turned up the intensity and we didn't match them.Â
We have to be better than that if we have any chance to be the team I know we're capable of being. Until then, we will only be a decent team that plays well at times."
