Eagles go Undefeated in Wittenberg Classic after Defeating La Roche, Led by Ruble 80-74

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

SPRINGFIELD, Oh. --- The Asbury women's basketball team earned an 80-74 victory over the La Roche Redhawks in their second game of the Wittenberg Classic in Ohio over the winter break. 

Led by Jaclynn Ruble's season-high of 23, five different Eagles scored at least nine points in the victory.
Ruble also collected four 3's and shot 88% from the line today.

Tiffani Riley had an impressive game as well, setting a season-high with 19 points and six rebounds. Riley shot 54% in the field and 100% from the line. She also compiled three blocks and two steals.

Camryn Preston led Asbury's defense with nine rebounds and 13 points, and shot 83% from the line today.



In the first quarter, the game was back and forth until Asbury exploded on a seven point run, and held the Redhawks to only three points for the remainder of the quarter, ending it 14-10.

The Eagles used an 8-0 run in the middle of the second quarter to build their lead to double-digits at 30-15. Continuing to outscore La Roche, AU put another 25 on the board, holding the Redhawks to 17. The half ended with the Eagles on top, 39-27.

In the third quarter, the Eagles experienced their only quarter of the game being outscored by La Roche.
La Roche was led by senior guard Machia Hairston, who grabbed 19 points for the Redhawks.
AU only put up 15 compared to the Redhawks' 21 points, but Asbury remained in the lead, concluding the quarter 54-48.

Even though La Roche had their highest scoring quarter with 26 points in the fourth, AU matched them, being led by Ruble who contributed 12 points. The Eagles ended the game with a victory over the Redhawks, 80-74. 

AU stood their ground and finished the game 80-74 over La Roche. The Eagles recorded many impressive accomplishments this afternoon including three players earning season-highs. Asbury shot their second best this season from the line, shooting 83%. The team earned a season-high of nine blocks today, led by Tiffani Riley and Camryn Preston who each tallied three. The Eagles also recorded 28 points in the paint and 13 points off of fast breaks.

Asbury will go into the Christmas break with an 8-6 record.

After a break during Christmas, the Eagles will be back for competition on Wednesday, December 28th. They will be traveling to Cincinnati, Oh., to take on Mount St. Joseph University at 5 PM.
