GREENVILLE, SC.---
Nick Fort scored a season-high 32 points and collected 15 rebounds to lead Asbury past Warren Wilson on Friday night, 101-82.
Asbury's 101 points is their most so far this season, a strong response from their cold shooting against Alice Lloyd. AU made 35 of their 70 field goals for an even 50 percent from the field, also making eight three's.
Nick Fort's 32 point performance was on 11-14 shooting with ten made free-throws and three steals for his sixth double-double this season. Junior
Caleb Wallis was incredible with 17 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Wallis went 5-8 from the field and made two three's.
John Shoulders and
Clayton Winter both scored double-digits, Shoulders dishing three assists and Winter grabbing six rebounds. Senior guard
Dakota Walden gathered eight rebounds with two steals and eight points.
Ben McNew made three more three's to lead Asbury after eight games with 21 at 48.1 percent.
Warren Wilson made one more three than Asbury but AU dominated the paint battle scoring 46 points to the Owl's 26. The Eagles also gathered their most rebounds of the year with 46.
The Owls took an early 19-16 lead after early sharp shooting on three three's. Asbury responded with a 23-4 run over the next seven minutes led by two three's by
Caleb Wallis and an
Ashton Owens three.
AU continued their offense to score their most points in a half all season to take a 57-37 lead. Asbury was led in the half by
Nick Fort scoring 15 points on 6-7 shooting.
Warren Wilson's offense pushed back in the second half, cutting their deficit all the way to three with six minutes to go at 79-76. Once again Asbury went on a scoring run that saw them drop 21 points in the final six minutes of the game.
AU's defense held Warren Wilson to only six points in the final six minutes as they pulled away to a 101-82 victory. Asbury moves to 8-1 on the season with their opening win in the Bruins Invitational.
