Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Asbury Falls to Alice Lloyd for First Loss of Season, 73-83

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- Sophomore guard Ben McNew scored a career-high 15 points on four three's but Asbury fell to Alice Lloyd College on Tuesday night in the Luce Center. Asbury's seven game winning streak to start the season finally comes to a close, but not before AU set the school record for most wins to start a season at seven.

McNew grabbed three steals, a rebound, and dished an assist to go along with his career-high scoring night. Dakota Walden was extremely effective scoring 17 points, grabbing nine rebounds, three steals and three assists. Walden was also 7-9 from the free-throw line.

Nick Fort was honored before the game for his recent entrance into the Asbury 1,000 career points club. Fort accomplished this in just over two full seasons at Asbury and also has grabbed over 500 career rebounds for AU. Fitting enough as Fort produced his fifth double-double of the season tonight scoring 20 points and collecting 14 rebounds. Fort was also efficient from the line at 7-8.

Alice Lloyd shot the ball well all night, led by guard Bryce Slone scoring 25 points on 8-13 shooting. Slone made five of the Alice Lloyd nine made threes.

Alice Lloyd shot 50.8 percent from the field compared to Asbury's 31.9 percent. Nether team shot the ball at a high percentage from three, Asbury going and Alice Lloyd 9-25. Alice Lloyd used their 40 points in the paint and 12 fast break offense to score the second most points a team has scored on Asbury this season at 83.

The first five points of the game were scored by Alice Lloyd to take an early 5-0 lead over undefeated Asbury. ALC continued their hot start all the way to a 24-13 lead that was gained from a Bryce Slone three-pointer. Dakota Walden scored the next four points to cut Asbury's deficit to 17-24.

ALC responded to the AU run with eight straight points to take their largest lead of the half at 32-17. AU trimmed the Alice Lloyd lead to nine heading into the half 33-42.

The strong play from Alice Lloyd continued as they stretched their lead to 21 with 12 minutes to go in the game. Asbury made a late surge in the game with a Ben McNew three cutting their deficit to nine with under two minutes to go at 76-67, but Alice Lloyd held on to give Asbury their first loss of the season 73-83.
