WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury Men's Soccer team got to host Midway University after a slight schedule change for their last match of the season. AU finished the season on a strong note and recorded a 5-0 victory for themselves tonight.
With a slightly different lineup than normal, AU charged into the match with high confidence after last week's win against Warren Wilson. The match began and AU took immediate possession of the game, recording 10 shots in the first 21 minutes of the game. Midway's defense held strong with their keeper, Tyler Glass recording eight saves in that time. The Eagles were determined to get on the board, and in the 22nd minute,
Delorges Lavra played a through ball to
Sammy Abraham who put it away in the back of the net.
Abraham did not stop there and scored another with an assist by
Austin Dunlap just two minutes later. These two goals for Abraham make the 2022 season his highest-scoring season, recording seven goals in total.
Midway attempted to retaliate after AU's strong lead, but Asbury's defense and freshmen keeper,
Crosby Short held them to just three shots for the half, ending the first half with the Eagles up on a 2-0 lead.
Five minutes into the second half,
Daonhan Tran scored his second goal of the season with an assist by
Luke Thomas putting Asbury up 3-0 with 40 minutes still to play. The match would remain stale for the next 27 minutes until
Delorges Lavra would find the back of the net in the 77th minute for a solo goal. With Asbury up 4-0 already, they ran the shot count up and continued to fight for a bigger lead against Midway.
Less than ten minutes later, with his first goal of his collegiate career, Senior,
Micah Harper put AU's final goal of the night away with an assist by
Delorges Lavra in the 82nd minute. Asbury held their lead for the remainder of the match and ended the game with a 5-0 victory.
Asbury defense stood strong this evening, only allowing Midway to record eight shots, and Keeper,
Crosby Short recorded his first clean sheet of the season, and his career, totaling the Eagles with four clean sheets for the season. The Eagles produced a beautiful send-off for their seniors with all goals tonight being recorded by seniors.
