OAKLAND CITY, In. --- The Eagles traveled to Oakland City, In., today for the first round of the NCCAA regional tournament. The Eagles faced off against the Campbellsville Tigers in what was soon to be the longest and toughest battle of their season. AU and the Tigers held each other to 0-0 for 110 minutes and went onto a PK shootout where the Tigers edged AU 4-3.
Before today, AU had been on a three-week break of no games and trained relentlessly for the regional tournament. Campbellsville is a newer opponent for AU and has proved to be tough competition in the previous seasons.
To begin the match, CU played a high-press style of play and put pressure on the Eagles with six shots in the first half. AU's defense was keen on letting nothing past them and held the Tiger's to no goals for the half. The Eagles were able to put in some shots on the board by
Micah Schneider and
Austin Dunlap. Neither team was able to put any away in the first half, and entered the second tied 0-0.
Both teams continued to fight in the second half, with the Tigers putting another six shots on the board. CU was more accurate with their shots now, but keeper
Collin McKibben locked in and saved all five of their shots on goal, with a spectacular save from a 1v1 battle. With the lone shot of the half,
Daniel Shelton attempted to put one away and nailed the crossbar. With both teams intent on not letting anything through, the second half ended scoreless and the Eagles and Tigers went into overtime.
Beginning OT, it became a battle for simple possession in the first ten minutes. Nothing resulted from the first ten, and the teams went into the second half of overtime. AU and the Tigers went shot for shot in the second period of OT with both teams recording two shots.
The match went into a Penalty Kick shoot out and Campbellsville was able to take the win in a 4-3 result from PK's.
The Men's Soccer team will end their season with a 8-6-3 regular record.

"All heart, desire, and passion for the game and their teammates were displayed today on the NCCAA regional semi-final match against Campbellsville. The sacrifice these guys made today on the field was unmatched. It is always difficult when a game goes into PK's and the game can be cruel. Though the game didn't go in our favor, we could not as for a better group of young men to coach this season. We wish our seniors well and thank them for their sacrifices during their time here in our program."
