GRANVILLE, Oh. --- This evening, Asbury women's soccer traveled to Granville, Oh., to take on Denison University. This was the first occurrence in program history that the Eagles have faced the Buzzards. Tonight, Denison University took the victory over Asbury, recording the first win in the match up between the two schools.
Denison ended the evening with a 4-0 sweep over AU.
Just seven minutes into the game, Senior
Maryah Jones was able to get a shot on goal, but was stopped by Denison's goalkeeper.
Answering back, Denison racked up 14 shots throughout the first half, but the Eagles' defense kept them at bay. Out of 4 shots on goal from Denison, Asbury's goalkeeper,
Maliya Crump, saved each one, giving her a save percentage of 100% on the first 45 minutes of play.
With a minute of play left in the first period, it was captain
Caroline Absher to record Asbury's second shot on goal for the evening.
Despite both teams' attempts at goal, the first period ended scoreless, setting the game at 0-0.
The Eagles held their own in the first period, but in the second half of the game Denison came in as a strong force offensively. Denison managed to score three goals within only 11 minutes of play into the period. The fast score of 3-0 set the tone for the remainder of the match, holding Asbury back from getting off any shots this half. Denison continued to shoot against the Eagles, scoring one more goal on the evening.

Asbury's next game will be at home in just two days, on Thursday October 6. The Eagles will host the Maryville Scots, kicking off at 5 pm.
