Eagles Handed Loss by Lions in Last Home Match

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.---  Goalkeeper Maliya Crump earned a notable save percentage of 77.8% as the Eagles fell on Monday evening in their last home match with the Piedmont Lions, 0-2.

The Eagles and Lions went almost even in shot count as well as shots on goal for the night.
AU attempted 17 shots, putting ten on the frame, while Piedmont had 18 shots with nine on goal.

In the first period, it was a back and forth competition between the two teams, with both teams having the opportunity to strike early on.

It was freshman Hannah Day to take the Eagles' first shot on the evening. Day took a shot that was blocked by Piedmont's defense, and she captured the rebound for another shot but was stopped by the Lions' keeper.

Twenty-two minutes of play into the game, freshman Hannah Muncie took her second shot on the day, but was defensively saved by Piedmont's defender.
Muncie's shot was countered by the Lions, as forward Kaylee King ripped a shot around 35 yards out and placed it in the net just outstretching the reach of Asbury's keeper for the 1-0 lead.

With two minutes left in the half, the Lions slipped past the Eagles' defense for a shot, but was stopped by a phenomenal save from goalkeeper Maliya Crump.

The Eagles had some great possessions resulting in 12 shot opportunities throughout the first 45 minutes of play.
In the first 45 minutes, AU out shot Piedmont this half, 12-8.

This concluded the remainder of the first period, resulting in a score of 1-0 going into the half.

In the second period, the intensity between the teams escalated as the Eagles pushed hard to make a comeback from their one goal deficit.

Half way into the last half, the Lions crept through Asbury's defensive line, scoring their second goal on the night, setting a score of 2-0, Piedmont.
This left AU with 25 minutes of play remaining to try to make up their lost goals.
The Eagles took every opportunity that they got, releasing seven shots in the remaining minutes of the game, but were unsuccessful.

Asbury was unable to get on the board and Piedmont handed the Eagles a loss of 2-0 on their final home game of the 2022 season.
