Cleveland, Oh. --- The Asbury Men's Soccer team traveled to Cleveland, Oh. this evening to take on a new face, Case Western Reserve University. AU fought a hard battle against a well-rounded team, and could not find a victory tonight and the match resulted in a 3-1 loss for the Eagles.Â
Case Western began the match with a high-press style of play and put pressure on Asbury immediately. Although AU's defense put up an intense fight, Case Western was able to put three away in the first half. The Eagles continued to fight, with the lone shot of the half by
Daniel Shelton off a ball from
Nick Clark, but Case Western held strong and held their 3-0 lead to end the half.Â
The second half ran wild with cards, with five yellow cards being called collectively between the two teams. After a few changes to the Eagle's play style, AU returned in the second half with a new fire under them and was able to record three more shots for the half. In the 85th minute,
Luke Thomas played an open ball to the top of the box and
Austin Dunlap took advantage of the space and slammed a goal in the back of the net, being the lone goal scorer of the night. Case Western held their 3-1 lead for the remainder of the match, and the result was a loss for the Eagles.
"I thought the boys battled well tonight. Tough loss, but we learned a lot about what we need to do going forward. Now our mind is on our match next week."
