COLUMBIA, Ky.--- Asbury University men's and women's swimming opened up their 2022-2023 season on Friday evening with eight Eagles notching first place finishes on the day. The men's and women's teams each split in their two competitions at Lindsey Wilson College, both defeating Campbellsville University and both falling to Lindsey Wilson College.
Asbury women's swimming defeated Campbellsville 118-85, and were edged to Lindsey Wilson at 81-123. The men also defeated Campbellsville, at a score of 118-85, and fell to Lindsey Wilson at 51-153.
Amber Schulte picked up right where she left off last season with a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle (11:20.28). Schulte is now in her third season as a swimmer for AU and has continued to set new AU school records in each season.Â
Freshman,
Sarah Finlayson also took a first place finish for AU in her first ever meet as an Asbury Eagle. Finlayson took the win in the 200 freestyle (2:03.83.)
Claire Hentrup, another Asbury female freshman started her AU career off with a win as she recorded a first place position with her 50 freestyle performance (26:32).
The Asbury women's team also showed up together as a team for a 200 freestyle relay victory, powered by
Alivia Williams,
Amber Schulte,
Sarah Finlayson, and
Tanner Robards (1:45.61).
On the men's side it was junior, media communications major
Ian Wang with the first place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.97). Wang took the 100 breaststroke victory as well last season in the Asbury Invitational, and looks to be continuing his form.Â

Asbury will turn around and travel to Lexington, Ky., tomorrow to compete with Transylvania University at 1 pm for the second meet in two days.Â
