Baseball Falls in 11 Innings to IU Southeast at RSC Championship

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The Asbury University baseball team was eliminated from the River States Conference Championship on Saturday evening after a tough 6-5 loss in extra innings to IU Southeast.

The Eagles had an upward challenge entering the day, having to play three games in one day as they fell just short of advancing on to the RSC Championship Final.

Asbury is 38-12 on the year following the RSC Championship Tournament.

Game one vs Point Park
*The game originally scheduled for Friday night was suspended due to rain and resumed on Saturday morning.
*PPU took advantage of good two-out hitting as they tacked on two runs in the third.
The Pioneers would score twice more in the fifth, and then extended their lead to 6-0 with two more in the eighth.
*Point Park totaled 20 hits in the win and scored four additional runs in the ninth.
*Asbury finished with eight hits as Walker Paris and Trevor Campbell each finished with two hits.

Game two vs Rio Grande
*In an elimination game later in the afternoon, the Eagles got off to a shaky start. Rio scored three runs, but the Eagles stalled the early momentum shift as Garrett McIntire threw out a baserunner at third base from centerfield to end the inning.
*Asbury regrouped quickly and cut the lead down to one as Paris and Colton Back drove in a run each in the bottom of the inning.
*In the bottom of the second, AU tied it up as Campbell connected on an RBI single to score Austin Dick.
*URG re-claimed the lead with a solo homer in the ensuing inning, but once again AU battled back with another RBI single this time from CJ Compton in the bottom half of the fourth to even the score again.
*Trailing 5-4 in the seventh, the Eagles broke loose with three runs in the frame. After a bases loaded walk to tie the game, Kaiden Zacharias delivered the go-ahead two-RBI single to left to push the Eagles in front 7-5.
*Will McDonald entered the game in relief and shut the door on the Red Storm, earning the win and throwing the final 3.1 innings. McDonald threw a complete game against URG on Thursday additionally.
*Paris and Zacharias each finished with two hits, while Campbell boasted a 3-5 effort at the plate.

Game three vs IU Southeast
*In the final game of the evening, the Eagles had positioned themselves one win away from the RSC Championship Final.
*After the Grenadiers scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the second, Asbury had a huge inning in the top of the third.
*Highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Trevor Campbell and an RBI double from Walker Paris, Asbury scored five runs on five hits to take a 5-2 lead.  
*IU Southeast reduced the lead down to one after platting two runs in the sixth.
*Pitching in relief, Jackson Cole threw two shutout innings to keep the Eagles ahead 5-4 entering the ninth.
*In the bottom of the ninth, Asbury had two outs but the Grenadiers had a runner in scoring position. IUS would tie up the game moments later with an RBI single to left.
*The Grenadiers tired to win the game stealing home base later in the inning but Matthew Baker made the tag at the plate to force extra innings.
*Later on in extra innings, IUS loaded up the bases in the bottom of the 11th with nobody out.
*In the following at-bat, IUS won the game with a walk-off single to right.
*Campbell had another huge game with three hits to lead the Eagles, while McIntire recorded two hits in the loss.
