VIENNA, W.V.—The Asbury University softball team was eliminated from the River States Conference Championship Tournament on Friday evening with a 1-0 loss to WVU Tech at Jackson Memorial Park in Vienna, W.V.
The Eagles were victorious in their first game of the afternoon, winning 16-11 over Midway, but were knocked out of the tournament with a 1-0 loss to the Golden Bears in their second elimination game.
Asbury achieves its first 20-win season in program history since 2011 and concludes the year with a record of 20-31.
Game one
*The Eagles exploded for 16 runs on 15 hits in their first contest of the day as they held off Midway for the win.
*Tied at 1-1 early, Asbury scored three runs in the second off an RBI single from
Taylor Enlow and a two-RBI single from
Chandler Kelly, followed by a six-run fourth inning to take a commanding 10-3 advantage.
*However, in the bottom of the fifth, Midway would score eight runs on eight hits to take an 11-10 lead.
*Trailing by one, the Eagles fought their way back into the game as
Abby Fletcher' RBI double tied up the game at 11.
*Later on in the inning,
Chandler Kelly scored off an error to give AU the lead. Asbury added two more runs off sacrifice fly outs from
Sydney Howard and
Madison Moss.
*AU scored two runs of insurance in the top of the 7
th as
Olivia Judy's RBI double scored Enlow and Kelly connected on another RBI single up the middle.
*
Ally Moore collected the victory in the circle with five innings pitched and a strikeout.
Abby Ponder and
McKenzie Meyer each pitched one inning apiece in relief.
*Kelly led AU with an impressive 3-4 effort at the plate with four RBI, while Moss, Enlow,
Jenni Beasley, and Fletcher all tacked on two hits each.
Game two
*Asbury struggled in their second game at the plate as they finished with only one hit in the loss. Beasley reached on an infield single in the bottom of the second to record the only hit for AU.
*
Taylor Enlow pitched a complete game in the circle and allowed only four hits and struck out four, while allowing no earned runs.
*Enlow tossed six scoreless innings, but WVU Tech would score the winning run in the top half of the seventh off an error.
