VIENNA, W.V.—The Asbury University softball team was edged 2-1 on Thursday evening in the River States Conference Championship opening round at Jackson Memorial Park in Vienna, W.V.
The Eagles will now move into the loser's bracket of the double elimination tournament and will play the loser of the Rio Grande/ Midway game tomorrow at noon. URG and Midway will play prior at 10 AM.
Highlights
*After three scoreless innings, Carlow was threating to break the tie in the top of the fourth with runners in scoring position.

Ally Moore got out of the jam with back-to-back ground outs to end the inning, but the Eagles would strand the bases loaded in the next half inning.
*The Eagles broke through in the top of the sixth after an RBI ground out from
Bree Sanders scored which scored
Madilyn Choate for the 1-0 lead.
*Carlow would tie up the game in the sixth, scoring the tying run off an infield single.
*Asbury came up empty in the seventh, as they tried to advance a runner to third base with one out after tagging up from second, but Carlow appealed the play and the final out of the inning was called.
*The Celtics scored the winning run with one out off an infield single to end the game.

*Carlow finished with 11 hits and the Eagles were held to only five in the loss.
