BECKLEY, WV. – The Asbury University softball team split its Saturday doubleheader at WVU Tech in River States Conference play.
The Eagles won the first game 5-3 in extra innings but fell 7-6 on a walk-off single in game two.
AU moves to 14-18 on the year but remains above .500 in league play at 6-4.
Game One
*Ally Moore pitched all eight innings and finished with three strikeouts while allowing eight hits.
*
Taylor Enlow's RBI single to right field scored
Madison Moss for the early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
*WVU Tech would tie the game up in the bottom of the second off an RBI single to center.
*Neither team would score again until the sixth inning. AU added two runs in the top of the sixth as Moss was hit by a pitch and Enlow doubled to left-center to put the Eagles in scoring position.
*Moments later,
Olivia Judy smacked a single to deep-right center to score both runs for a 3-1 advantage.
*Tech would once again tie up the game in the next half inning with two runs.
*In the eighth,
Harley Wagoner collected two RBI and reached base as
Abby Fletcher and
Madilyn Choate scored from second and third.
*The Golden Bears had the tying run at the plate with two outs, but Moore and the Eagles would prevail as a ground out to third ended the game.
*Enlow led the Eagles with a 2-4 effort at the plate, while Judy, Moss, Wagoner, and
Brynna Reynolds all finished with one hit each.
Game Two
*Asbury got behind early in the second game but scored two runs in the top of the third as
Jenni Beasley and
Olivia Judy both connected on RBI singles to score two runs.
*However, WVU Tech scored the next five runs in the game with one in the bottom of the fourth and four in the fifth inning.
*Down 6-2, the Eagles didn't give up and battled their way back into the game.
*With the bases stacked in the sixth,
Madison Moss ripped a two-RBI single to scored Wagoner and
Bree Sanders, which cut the lead down to two runs.
*AU would tie up the game in the top of the 7
th as Enlow scored off a wild throw and Wagoner hit an infield single scoring Judy to knot the game even at 6.
*Asbury had two outs in the seventh, but WVU Tech scored the game-winning run on a walk-off single to right field.
*
Abby Ponder got the start in game two and pitched 4.2 innings and allowed nine hits.
McKenzie Meyer pitched the final two innings in relief and struck out one.
*Enlow recorded her 10
th multi-hit game of the season, which marks a team-high as she finished with another double and two hits total.
*Judy,
Sydney Howard, and Wagoner all collected two hits apiece additionally.
