WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University softball team fell twice to Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday evening in the Eagles' home opener.
The Bulldogs won game one 8-1 and game two 10-4.
AU moves to 3-7 on the year with the losses. The Eagles will return to action tomorrow at 1 & 3 PM against St. Francis in Wilmore.
Game one
*TWU would score three runs in the first inning to build an early lead as AU had trouble finding its offense early in the game.
*The Eagles would score their only run of the game in the third off an RBI double from
Brynna Reynolds, which scored
Madison Moss.
*Moss and
Taylor Enlow each posted multi-hit games with two hits apiece.
*
McKenzie Meyer and
Abby Ponder each pitched in the first contest with Meyer tossing the first five innings of work. Ponder would pitch the remainder of the game in relief.
*Asbury would be held to just five hits in the loss as the Bulldogs collected 10 hits.
Game two
*
Ally Moore pitched four shutout innings in the circle to slow down TWU's bats. The senior struck out three batters in 5.1 innings of work.
*Tennessee Wesleyan broke through with an RBI single in the top of the fifth for a 1-0 lead.
*The game got away from the Eagles in the top of the sixth, as TWU scored seven runs on five hits.
*Asbury would respond with four runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by RBI singles from
Bree Sanders and
Chandler Kelly, along with an RBI double from
Jenni Beasley.
*The Bulldogs would add two more runs in the seventh as costly errors in the field allowed the lead to extend.
*For the game, Beasley and Kelly each led the Eagles' bats with two hits apiece. Beasely and
Taylor Enlow each recorded a double in the game.
*AU posted 10 hits as a team, but left eight baserunners stranded.
