WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University baseball team dropped its series opener against Point Park on Friday evening at Cecil Zweifel Field to open up River States Conference play.
Asbury moves to 10-3 on the year following the loss. The Eagles will host PPU on Saturday at Noon and 3:30 PM in the final two games of the series.
AU took the lead first in the bottom of third as
Colton Back crossed the plate off an RBI single from
Paul Haupt.
The Pioneers tied it up in the top of the fourth on a solo homerun. After the game was tied at two, Point Park took the lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI single for a 3-2 lead.
Point Park would add a run of insurance off a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.
The Eagles out-hit Point Park 10-6 but stranded 12 baserunners in the loss.
Trevor Campbell and
Walker Paris each managed multiple hits for Asbury. Campbell led the Eagles with three hits in five at bats.
Will McDonald was on the pitcher's mound for the Eagles. The righty lasted eight innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out eight.
Jackson Cole threw one inning in relief.
