Eagles Win 8th Straight in 9-1 Victory at IU Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Asbury University baseball team won its eighth straight game on Friday with a 9-1 victory at IU Kokomo in River States Conference play.

Asbury is now 18-3 overall on the year and more importantly moves to 6-1 in league play.

Will McDonald posted his fifth win of the year on the mound after another impressive outing. He went eight innings, striking out seven and allowed just three hits in the victory.

IUK scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the 2nd to take the early advantage.

However, the Eagles would score nine unanswered runs throughout the rest of the game. Matt Bakers' RBI single would bring home CJ Compton in the top of the 4th to tie up the game.

With the game knotted up at 1-1, the Eagles would get two huge RBI singles from Kaiden Zacharias and Matt Johnson to push AU ahead 3-1.

AU scored 5 runs in the 8th inning to put the game out of reach. After loading up the bases, Garrett McIntire got things started with an RBI single through the right side to bring home Tanner McKee.

Colton Back would then rip a two-RBI double down the left field line for a 6-1 lead. Back has recorded at least one RBI in the past six games and holds a six-game hitting streak.

The scoring would continue after an RBI single from Trevor Campbell and a sacrifice fly from Paul Haupt extended the lead to 8-1.

Asbury would score an additional run in the top of the ninth off an error.

For the game, Asbury produced 10 hits as Trevor Campbell and CJ Compton collected two hits apiece to lead the way.

Campbell currently leads the Eagles' bats with a seven-game hitting streak.

AU will close out the conference road series at IUK  with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at noon.
