Softball Drops Doubleheader at No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett

GWINNETT, Ga. – The Asbury University softball team returned to action on Tuesday at No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett, marking the second nationally ranked team they've faced over the span of three days.

The Eagles were shutout 6-0 in game one and fell 11-3 in game two.

AU moves to 1-3 on the year and is slated to play at home on Friday against Huntington.

Game one  
*Georgia Gwinnett's Alexa Good pitched a complete game and struck out 14 AU batters, while allowing just one hit.
*The Eagles picked up their only hit of the day in the top of the 7th with two outs, as Abby Fletcher reached on a single to right-center.
*GG scored their first run in bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly. The Grizzlies would add another run off an RBI single in the second and added another run in the 4th.
*Gwinnett would score three runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 6-0.
*McKenzie Meyer got the start and pitched 4.2 innings of work as she gave up only two earned runs.
*Abby Ponder pitched the remainder of the game and allowed only one hit.
 
Game two
*In the second game, Georgia Gwinnett jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first two innings.
*Asbury would get its offense going in the third inning. Brynna Reynolds got into scoring position on a double to centerfield, followed by an RBI single from Abby Fletcher, scoring Reynolds which cut the deficit down to 2-1.
*The combo of Reynolds and Fletcher would tie up the game in fifth inning. Reynolds reached base on a single to right and Fletcher would bring her home moments later on an RBI double to right-centerfield.
*Fletcher would later score in the inning off an RBI from Harley Wagoner to give the Eagles the lead 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
*However, GG would score nine runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the contest in six innings.
*Fletcher and Reynolds each went 2-3 from the plate as Fletcher led AU with 2 RBI.
*Harley Wagoner and Madilyn Choate both collected one hit apiece in the loss.
*Abby Ponder started game two and went 5.2 innings, giving up 10 hits and striking out two.
