HOOVER, Ala. -- The Asbury University baseball team started its weekend series with Georgetown with a 7-5 victory on Saturday evening in Alabama. The Eagles remain perfect on the season at 5-0 and are also unbeaten in Hoover, sitting currently at 4-0.
Asbury will play two more against Georgetown today beginning at 11 AM CST with game two to follow.
Will McDonald got his second win of the year on the mound, as he struck out seven in five innings of work.
Jackson Cole recorded the final 10 outs to earn the save. Cole finished with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.
CJ Compton led the Eagles' bats with two hits on the day, while
Paul Haupt and
Matthew Baker each tabbed two RBI.
Asbury scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. McDonald worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning, giving up only one run. AU took a 5-1 lead after three innings thanks to a two-RBI single from Baker.
In the fifth,
Colton Back's RBI double gave AU a 6-3 lead as
Walker Paris scored on the batted ball. Back would later score in the inning on a wild pitch.
Georgetown had runners on the corners in the 9th trailing 7-5, but Asbury would leave the inning unscathed and preserved the win after a pop out to Haupt at first ended the game.
