CINCINNATI, Oh. -
After coming off a win last Friday night in Chicago, Asbury's men's basketball traveled to Cincinnati Tuesday night to take on the Lions of Mount St. Joseph. The outcome would be an unfortunate one for the Eagles, who fought hard throughout the night, as they were defeated 68-87.
Asbury falls to 1-4 on the season, as the Lions improve to 3-2.
It was a back and forth battle through the 1st half. Both teams exchanging baskets from inside and out, with neither able to set themselves apart. Mount St. Joseph would end the half on an 11-6 run, giving them a 43-38 lead going into halftime.
The Eagles would go into the break shooting a red hot 48.1% from the field, 55.6% from the 3-PT range, while the Lions shot 43.8% and 38.1% from 3.
The 2nd half would be a much different story for Mount St. Joseph's shooting percentages, as this time it would be the Lions who came out on fire. Finishing the 2nd half shooting 72% from the field and 66.7% from the 3-PT range, Asbury would still find a way to stay close, down only 59-51 with 13 minutes to play. Mount St. Joseph would end up stretching out their lead with a handful of made 3-PT field goals, making it difficult for the Eagles to recover.
Asbury led in scoring for the night by Nick Fort, who totaled 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Eric Powell would score 12 points while also grabbing 2 steals. John Shoulders would follow up his 11-point performance from his first game back against Finlandia with a 15-point outing against Mount St. Joseph, shooting 5-6 from 3-PT range. Clayton Winter also scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Clayton Winter continues to be a rebounding machine for Asbury, grabbing 9 against Mount St. Jospeh. Winter totaled 13 boards at Midway earlier this season, and 9 in a win vs. Finlandia last Friday.
