WILMORE, Ky. -- The Asbury golf program will be well represented in the 2021 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championship in Palm Coast, Fla., October 18-20.

The men's team qualified by winning the Mideast Regional last month to become one of nine teams to earn a spot in the NCCAA National Championship to be played at Hammock Beach Resort's Ocean Course. Senior Faith Wiley, an all-conference performer throughout her career, also qualified to compete as an individual in the NCCAA Women's Championship.

This marks the second time the AU men's golf program has qualified for a national post-season tournament. The Eagles' first appearance was in the 2018 NAIA Championship.

The Eagles' lineup will consist of Garrett Sturges, Nathan Stine, Juan Valdivieso, Victor Vargas, and Marcos Ezcurra. Sturges, a freshman from Brookline, New Hampshire, earned individual medalist honors at the NCCAA Mideast Regional finishing the tournament two-under par. Sturges was joined on the NCCAA All-Region team by teammates Stine and Valdivieso.

The AU men's team has recorded three top five finishes in tournaments this fall and hopes to continue its solid play next week. The fall season has also been highlighted by several individual top five and all-tournament performances.

"Our goal at the beginning of the fall season was to play in this championship," said first-year head coach Scott Ferguson. "I am very proud of this team. We are very grateful for this opportunity to represent Asbury in the NCCAA National Championship. We are looking forward to competing and sharing this unique experience as a team."

The 2021 Championship will begin Sunday, October 17, as all participating teams will join for worship/tee-off breakfast and participate in a Christian service project providing items for the Grace Community Food Pantry.
