Men's Soccer Posts 2-1 Victory Over Brescia

WILMORE, Ky – The Asbury men's soccer team defeated former conference opponent Brescia University 2-1 Wednesday evening. The win moves the Eagles to 3-8-1 on the season, while the Bearcats drop to 8-4 and suffer only their second loss in the last seven outings.

Freshman Cameron Johnson and Sophomore Ethan Hoogerheide each scored goals for AU. Johnson stated, "It was a fantastic win after a fairly tough run. Things are looking up as we progress into the post season."

"There's no getting around it, we had to grind out that win," mentioned Coach Ben Andrews after the match. "It wasn't a perfect game by any means, but sometimes the game rewards resiliency. My guys have had to do just that all year. Their effort and attitude deserved the win tonight. Now we have to focus on fixing the little issues and improving on the deficiencies from the night."

Asbury's Johnson started the scoring for the night in the 38th minute after he found himself one-on-one with the keeper after junior Micah Schneider's cross. In the second half, Brescia equalized in the 71st minute. Senior Trey Miller and the Eagles' defense had to stand strong until freshman Austin Dunlap found space behind the Brescia defensive line and served a ball to an unmarked Ethan Hoogerheide, who buried it away in the 84th minute to secure the victory.

Highlights:

• Freshman Cameron Johnson scored his 2nd goal of the season (first team)

• Sophomore Ethan Hoogerheide scored his first goal of the season

• Senior Trey Miller recorded 12 saves on the night

Up Next: The Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 16, at 3 pm in Wilmore for a Senior Day match against Oakland City.
