NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Asbury University volleyball team dropped its first match in River States Conference play at IU Southeast on Friday evening.
The Grenadiers won the match in a sweep, winning 27-25, 25-22, 25-10.
With the loss, the Eagles move to 2-1 on the year and are 0-1 in conference play. IUS remains unbeaten at 2-0 in RSC action.
Highlights
*Asbury got off to a great start in the opening set, leading 11-5.
*However, the Grenadiers fought back and closed the gap at 15-15.
*The Eagles jumped ahead 23-19 but were unable to finish off the set before IUS stormed back to take the lead again.
*AU posted 11 kills in the opening set and a .194 hitting percentage, which would mark highs for the match.
*In the second frame, AU clawed its way back from a 15-7 deficit to even the set at 20-20. IUS won five of the final seven points in the set to take a 2-0 lead.
*AU struggled in the third set, finishing with only four kills and committing nine errors.
