RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The Asbury University baseball team won its River States Conference opening weekend series at Rio Grande after completing a doubleheader sweep on Sunday.
The Eagles improve to 13-4 on the year and are 2-1 in RSC action.
Game two
*Asbury jumped out to an early lead thanks to two runs in the top of the first.
*AU added on three more runs in the second after a double to left-center from
Austin Dick scored
Riley Baumbick and
Garrett McIntire.
*
Trevor Campbell's RBI single to left would bring Dick home for a 5-0 advantage.
*The Eagles remained in control ahead 6-1 in the fourth inning and would continue to pour it on offensively with five runs scored in the fourth and fifth to blow the game open.
*McIntire and
Austin Dick both finished with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. The pair also collected a double apiece.
* As a team, the Eagles collected 10 hits and
Joe Williams notched a multi-hit game in the victory with two hits.

Alec Lush got the win on the mound as he struck out seven batters through five innings of work. The sophomore has struck out 19 in his last two appearances.

Justin Manley pitched the final two innings of action and did not allow an earned run.
Game three
*Asbury took a quick 2-0 lead in the first thanks to an RBI double from
Paul Haupt and an RBI single from
CJ Compton.
*However, Rio would score four runs in the bottom of the first to retake the lead back.
*Down 5-1 in the fourth, AU would chip away at the lead with a sacrifice fly from
Colton Back and an RBI single from
Joe Williams in the fifth.
*Asbury scored at least one run in the last six innings and had a big sixth inning, as they totaled four runs to take the lead again.
*With two outs,
Trevor Campbell hit a two RBI single up the middle to give AU a 6-5 lead. Haupt then crushed a two-run homer to extend the lead out to 8-5.
*In total, AU scored 13 unanswered runs in the series finale.
*Asbury added three more runs in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Chase Thomas got the win for AU pitching 4.1 and striking out five.
*AU completed the game with 15 hits as Haupt and Campbell combined for seven hits and six RBI.
*Garett McIntire and
Joe Williams would both tally two hits each as well.
*Asbury hit seven doubles in the win, with Haupt and Campbell hitting two apiece.
