Eagles Extend Winning Streak to Six with 9-8 Walk Off Win over Georgetown

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University baseball team won its sixth consecutive game on Tuesday evening as they defeated Georgetown 9-8 in walk off fashion. Asbury won the game off a bases loaded walk to clinch the win.

AU improves to 9-2 on the season with the win and wins its second game against the Tigers this season, which marks the first time this feat has been done in the Manny Cervantes era.

Asbury is also now 6-1 in games played at Cecil Zweifel Field so far this year.

Highlights
*Georgetown scored two early runs in the top of the first, but Austin Shaw got out of a bases loaded jam to minimize the damage.
*Shaw re-gained his composure in the second inning and only gave up one more run in the next four innings. Shaw finished the game with five strikeouts.
*Payton Mattingly's solo home run in the bottom of the second inning put the Eagles on the board.
*Asbury took the lead after scoring two runs in the bottom of the third. Paul Haupt's sacrifice fly pushed the lead out to 4-2.
*AU led 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth and then Trevor Campbell drilled a three-run homer over the left field wall to make it 7-3.
*Jacob Cervantes recorded three scoreless innings before the ninth inning to keep AU ahead by four runs. Cervantes pitched three innings and allowed zero earned runs.
*Georgetown retook the lead after scoring five runs in the ninth at 8-7.
*Asbury would score the final two runs to win the game off bases loaded walks with one out in the inning.

Key Stats
*Garrett McIntire finished 4-5 from the plate with two doubles and two RBI to lead the Eagles' offense on Tuesday.
*Colton Back also finished with two hits in the victory, while Joe Williams and Walker Paris both recorded an RBI each.
*Williams was successful in two throw outs on Georgetown baserunners caught stealing.
*Jackson Cole picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles.
*As a team, Asbury recorded 14 hits in the win and Georgetown finished with 10.

Asbury is back in play at Cecil Zweifel Field on Friday against IU South Bend.
