ONEIDA, Tenn. – The Asbury University softball team split its doubleheader on Friday in Oneida, Tenn. at the Bear Creek Tournament.
The Eagles battled hard against (RV) Cumberlands but fell short 4-3 in game one. AU bounced back with a convincing 9-0 shutout victory over Grace. In total, Asbury produced 21 hits throughout both contests.
AU improves to 2-4 on the year after the win.
Game one (Cumberlands)

Deana Phillips' RBI single scored
Maddie Burke to tie up the game at 1-1 in the top of the third.
*Cumberlands added two more runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
*The Eagles had a great opportunity to score runs in the fifth with the bases loaded.

Chandler Kelly slapped an RBI single up the middle to make it a one run game at 3-2, followed by a fielder's choice RBI from
Katie Franklin which knotted things up at 3-3.
*The Patriots reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth and scored the game-clinching run on an RBI double.

Maddie Burke,
Deana Phillips, and Kelly all finished with two hits in the game.
*Asbury finished with nine hits and held UC to seven.
Game Two (Grace)
*Asbury's bats came alive in the bottom of the first inning with four runs on six hits.
*With the bases stacked in the second, AU added two more runs off an error.
Jenni Beasley's double added another run moments later, while a walked in run and an RBI single from
Paige Hill extended the lead out to 9-0.
*The Eagles' pitching was solid all game as
Ally Moore and
Katie Franklin combined for a shutout win. Moore tossed three innings and struck out one.
*Franklin pitched the final two innings of the game and did not give up a hit in the process.

Paige Hill led Asbury with a 3-3 effort at the plate. Hill also produced an RBI and scored two runs.

Chandler Kelly led the Eagles with a team-high three RBI in the victory.
*Burke recorded her fourth multi-hit game of the year and Phillips posted her third with two hits apiece.

Jenni Beasley also added two hits and an RBI, and
Bree Sanders and
Abby Fletcher each added an RBI apiece.
*AU limited Grace to only three hits throughout the game.
