PIPA PASSES, Ky. – The Asbury University softball team split its opening day doubleheader with Alice Lloyd on Saturday afternoon in Pipa Passes, Ky.
The Eagles (1-1) struggled offensively in the first game, losing by a score of 2-1, but AU bounced back with a dominating 19-6 (F/5) victory in game two.
Asbury hit six homeruns on the day, with senior
Deana Phillips hitting three, while
Maddie Burke finished with two, and
Harley Wagoner hit one.
To put into perspective, last season Asbury finished with only nine homeruns total.
Game one

Paige Hill got the start in the circle and went the full distance, striking out six batters.
*Hill limited ALC to only four hits in the game and continued to give trouble to the Alice Lloyd offense early on.
*Despite Hill's great pitching, AU's bats were only able to produce four hits in the loss.

Deana Phillips broke the scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a solo shot to leftfield.
*ALC walked it off in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run HR.
Game two
*AU collected 19 runs on 19 hits in the second game and wasted no time in building a commanding lead.
*With a five-run second inning, Asbury led 6-2. The inning was highlighted by a three-run HR from
Maddie Burke and another HR from Phillips.
*The Eagles' bats continued to roll and Asbury scored 10 runs in the third and fourth innings.
*Burke's big day continued with a grand slam, followed by a third homerun for Phillips.
*
Harley Wagoner hit her first homer of the year with a three-run shot in the fifth to put AU ahead 19-6.
*Burke finished 3-4 from the plate with seven RBI and three runs scored.
*Phillips was also 3-4 and collected four RBI, while
Paige Hill and
Bree Sanders each posted three RBI. Sanders also recorded three hits in the victory.

Jenni Beasley,
Madison Moss, and Wagoner all had multi-hit games with two hits each.

Katie Franklin got the start in game two, and
McKenzie Meyer recorded the win with two shutout innings tossed.
