BECKLEY, WV – The Asbury University men's soccer dropped their River States Conference opener at West Virginia Tech on Thursday evening by a score of 4-3.
The Eagles fall in their third straight contest and move to 2-7 on the year and 0-1 in RSC action.
West Virginia Tech scored the first goal of the contest in the 40
th minute to get on the board before halftime.
The Golden Bears took their 1-0 advantage heading into the locker room.
The second half saw six goals scored combined. WVU Tech scored again for a 2-0 lead in the 56
th minute kicked in off of a keeper's save.
18 seconds later, West Virginia Tech responded with another score for a 3-0 cushion. In the 68
th minute, WVU Tech scored once more to hold a 4-0 lead.
AU would score three goals in the final 20 minutes of the match. Getting the late rally started was
Noah Welch, who put AU on the board in the second half as he collected his fifth goal of the year to cut into the deficit.
With under 8 minutes remaining,
Owyn Howard scored off a free kick assisted by
Zachary Robbins to close the lead down to 4-2.
The Eagles would score again in the final minute of play, as
Isaac Amaya kicked in a goal with 20 seconds to play. Howard provided the assist on the score.
AU posted 11 shots and eight shots on-goal.

Trey Miller recorded six saves.
Asbury returns to action on Saturday with another RSC matchup at Rio Grande.
