WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University men's soccer team fell 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at home against Georgetown in non-conference play.
With the loss, the Eagles move to 2-6 on the year.
Georgetown tacked on a goal early on in the 10
th minute to lead 1-0. 18 minutes later, the Tigers struck again for a 2-0 advantage.
Asbury had a couple of chances to try and cut into the lead during the opening half, but shots from
Owyn Howard and
Noah Welch landed high and wide.
In the second half, Georgetown continued to extend its lead on Asbury. The Tigers scored their first goal of the half in the 46
th minute for a 3-0 lead.
Neither team would score for 20 minutes of play, but GC would then score three goals in seven minutes following a red-card, which had the Eagles playing a man-down.
Noah Welch scored his fourth goal of the year off a penalty kick in the 82
nd minute to put the Eagles on the board.
Asbury posted 11 shots in total throughout the contest. Welch led Asbury with a team-high three shots.
AU is back in action next week on the road as they open up River States Conference play at West Virginia Tech on Thursday.
