ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Asbury University men's soccer team came away with a 3-0 shutout victory at Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday afternoon.
AU improves to 2-4 on the season with the win, and more importantly, snaps a four-game losing streak.
Owyn Howard's header put the Eagles on the board to give Asbury the 1-0 edge inside 15 minutes of play in the opening half.
Noah Welch provided the assist on the goal.
Howard has scored three goals this year, a team-high, while Welch has posted two assists.
AU continued to fire away shots on-goal in the half with 13 total opportunities.
The Eagles would score once more right before the half as
Neil Lumm kicked in a shot with just over a minute remaining in the half.
Fionn McCartan dished out the assist for the score to give AU a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
AU shutout Harris-Stowe in the second half and was able add one more goal to preserve the win.
With just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation, Lumm recorded his second goal of the day as
Brody Smith collected the assist to put the Eagles up for good at 3-0.
AU had multiple chances to extend the lead throughout the match as they out-shot HSSU 21-14 in the match.
The Eagles were effective with their shots on-target as they produced nine shots on-goal.
Owen Sigey led AU with four total shots. Welch, Lumm, and
Daniel Shelton all recorded three shots each.
Ethan Mayo got the start in goal and played all 90 minutes while posting seven saves.
AU is back in action on the road again on September 18 at Shawnee State University
