Women’s Soccer Suffers Season-Opening Defeat to Taylor

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat to Taylor University on Wednesday afternoon at home in their 2019 season-opening match.

The Trojans scored two goals in both halves as they managed to keep AU scoreless throughout the contest.

Asbury had a tough time keeping Taylor off their offensive attack and were playing back on defense for a majority of the match.

Asbury's offensive opportunities were limited, and the Eagles were held to four shots. The Trojans collected 15 shots with 10 of them landing on-goal.

Taylor's first goal came within the first 10 minutes of the match to take the 1-0 lead. TU extended their lead with another goal in the 26th minute to take a 2-0 edge into halftime.

In the second half, the match was scoreless from both sides through the first 24 minutes of play. AU had a couple of chances to get on the board and cut into the lead, but were unable to execute.

Taylor would break the scoring drought with a goal in the 70th minute of action to push ahead 3-0. One more goal from the Trojans in the 73rd minute would advance their lead out to 4-0.

Senior Carley Pyles finished with six saves at goalie.

Janelle Hibshman, Georgia Clark, Susie Terrazas, and Ashley Miller each tallied a shot for AU in the match.

Asbury will be back in action at home on August 27 against Campbellsville. The match is set for a 5 PM start.
