Seniors Chase Martin, Logan Reitter, Josh Owsley, Alejandro Jivanjee and Joey Stenger played their final game at Cecil Zweifel Field Saturday but were all a part of an epic three game sweep against the visiting Midway University Eagles.
Game 1
Things got started in epic fashion Friday afternoon after the Asbury Eagles rallied from a five-run deficit to take the win in extra innings. Will MacDonald settled in a rhythm after surrendering five runs in the first inning and was able to hold Midway's offense at bay over seven more frames. Tyler Morrison was sharp in his two-inning relief appearance allowing just one earned run and collecting one strikeout.
Seniors were the story offensively in game one. Alejandro Jivanjee and Joey Stenger both collected two RBIs a piece in critical situations. The Asbury offense collected nine hits during the contest and were led by Joe Williams and Colton Back who collected two hits a piece. The Eagles would scratch, and claw runs throughout the nine innings of play to set up a walk-off situation in the bottom of the tenth. A critical throwing error by the Midway infield allowed Eagle pinch-runner Phillip Jewell to score from first base sealing the Asbury victory.
Game 2
Dominant pitching was the story of game two and Alec Lush delivered. The freshman completed six innings while collecting four strikeouts and surrendering no earned runs. For the season, Lush now stands at 5-0 with a 1.48 ERA which currently leads the River Stats Conference.
Offensively, Paul Haupt led the attack with two hits and four RBIs. Haupt was assisted by Trevor Campbell who collected two hits and three RBIs of his own.
Game 3
Everything came together in the final game of the Eagle's last weekend at Cecil Zweifel Field. Logan Reitter, Chase Martin, Andrew Spalding and Josh Owsley all combined to allow just one earned run for the game while striking out a total of 12 Midway hitters.
The strong pitching and defensive performances were assisted by Paul Haupt's two home runs which combined for three RBIs. The Eagle's collected six hits for the contest and have now scored 58 runs in their last five games.
The Eagles will be back in action Tuesday against Point Park before heading to Chillicothe, Ohio for the River States Conference Tournament.
