WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University volleyball team put forth a great effort on Friday night at the Luce Center, but came away empty-handed following a five-set loss to IU Southeast. The Grenadiers took the match (25-27, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 15-10). IUS holds the second-best record in the River States Conference at 12-3 in league play and 23-6 overall.
The Eagles completed the contest with 54 kills and a .142 hitting percentage. Freshman
Hailey Jordan led the way with 16 kills. Jordan also added 18 assists, 16 digs, two service aces, and a block.
AU tallied 42 kills through the first three sets of action but were only able to total 12 kills in the final two frames. Asbury tried to rally one last time in the fifth set, but were unable to overcome an early 4-0 deficit.
Additionally, the Eagles finished the match with seven service aces and eight blocks.
Maddie Lewis led Asbury with four service aces, while
Bethany Fye posted five blocks up at the net. AU also had 94 digs on the night, with senior
Jessie Sandefur leading the way again with a team-high 32 digs.
IU Southeast finished with 75 kills and a .233 hitting percentage for the match. The Grenadiers rallied from a 2-1 set deficit and recorded 27 kills in the fourth and fifth sets.
