WILMORE, Ky. – It took two overtime periods, but the Asbury University women's soccer team defeated Ohio Christian 1-0 in dramatic fashion in double overtime on Wednesday evening at home to win the River States Conference regular season title.
Jordan Holt scored the game-winning goal in the 107
th minute on a header scored off a corner kick.
Cam Davis and
Amber McIntosh provided the assist on the scored goal to win it for AU.
Asbury will be the No. 1 seed for the women's soccer River States Conference Championship.
It is the first time since joining the RSC that the women's soccer program has won the regular season title.
The Eagles improve to 8-9-1 on the year and end the RSC regular season at 7-2-1. Additionally, Asbury ends the regular season on a four-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Asbury out-shot the Trailblazers 15-10, with nine shots on-goal.
Elizabeth Sparks led Asbury with four shots.
Jordan Holt and
Susie Terrazas both tallied three shots in the win.
Carley Pyles tabbed another shutout at goalkeeper and finished with six saves.
Asbury will receive a first-round bye with the victory tonight and will play in the RSC Championship Semifinal round on Wednesday at home at 7 PM.
The Eagles will draw either IU Kokomo or WVU Tech, who play this Saturday.
