WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University women's soccer team won its fifth straight match, as they took down Point Park 4-3 in the River States Conference Semifinals on Wednesday evening in Wilmore.
AU advances on to its third consecutive River States Conference Championship match. Additionally, Asbury improves to 9-9-1 on the year with the victory.
Asbury got on the board first with a goal from
Paige Miller in the 26
th minute of action.
Elizabeth Sparks provided the assist on the goal.
Five minutes into the second half,
Susie Terrazas added another score to push the advantage out to 2-0.
Cam Davis was rewarded with the assist.
Point Park would cut into the deficit with a goal in the 56
th minute to make it a 2-1 game.
However, Asbury would score twice in the next five minutes pull ahead 4-1. Miller tabbed her second goal of the game in the 59
th minute, while
Elizabeth Sparks found the back of the net in the 64
th minute to extend the lead to three goals.
PPU would make a late rally with goals scored in the 71
st and 86
th minutes to make it 4-3. The Pioneers nearly tied up the match in the final seconds with a shot attempt that bounced off the post, but it was saved by
Carley Pyles to keep AU ahead and to avoid overtime.
The Eagles fired off 15 shots in the victory, with Sparks leading the way with four shots and three shots on-goal.
AU will defend its title with a championship rematch against IU East on Saturday at 7 PM.
