Women's Soccer Ends Year as RSC Runner-Up; Fall in Title Match to IU East

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University women's soccer team fell 1-0 on Saturday evening at home in the River States Conference Championship Final.

Saturday's contest marked a rematch from last year's championship match. AU had won the previous two RSC titles and were coming into the week fresh off a regular season title.

However, this time, IU East prevailed. The loss also snaps a five-game winning streak for Asbury.

The Red Wolves scored an early goal in the 7th minute of action and were able to hold off the Eagles' shot attempts to win the match.

The Eagles' defense played well after giving up the goal and limited IU East's scoring opportunities the rest of the way, as they tried their best to provide scoring chances for the Eagles' attack.

Asbury out-shot IU East 8-7 for the match and also finished with three more shots on-goal than the Red Wolves, but AU was unable to find the equalizing goal.

Elizabeth Sparks led the Eagles' offensive charge all night, posting five shots, with three looks on-goal. Cam Davis also recorded two shots in the loss.

AU ends the year at 9-10-1 and is the 2019 River States Conference Championship Runner-Up.
