Volleyball Fights Past Midway in Four Sets

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University volleyball team took down Midway in four sets on Tuesday evening at Pack the Luce Night at the Luce Center in River States Conference play. The Eagles were victorious (25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23).

Asbury improves to 12-13, (8-6, RSC) on the year.

It was a great start for AU, who quickly jumped on a 6-1 lead. Leading 16-10 later on in the set, Midway rallied back into the game and eventually tied things up at 20-20. However, a strong finish from Asbury, which included two kills and a service ace from Hailey Jordan, gave the Eagles an opening set lead.

The second set marked a competitive matchup as the Eagles came back from an early deficit. Later on in the action, MU led 23-22, but AU won the final three points to take a 2-0 set lead.

Midway won the third set as the Eagles were unable to complete the sweep, but bounced back nicely with a great effort in the final set.

Asbury never trailed in the fourth frame as they totaled 15 kills in the final set. Midway would reduce the advantage down to 23-22, but the Eagles prevailed in the final points to preserve the win.

As a team, AU finished the match with 48 kills, nine blocks, and 70 digs. Additionally, the Eagles recorded a hitting percentage of .204 on the night.

Hailey Jordan led the Eagles with 12 kills and completed a stat line of four service aces, 21 assists, and 12 digs as well.

Seniors Lizzy Rempel and Julia Thompson posted 11 and nine kills apiece.

Bethany Fye had a huge night up at the net, collecting seven blocks and seven kills.

Jessie Sandefur totaled a team-high 29 digs. Taegan Montgomery finished with a team-high 22 assists.

Kandace Eligio notched 11 digs and Charis Wieschhaus added eight respectively.

AU will take on IU Southeast on Friday evening at 7 PM at the Luce Center.
