Volleyball Drops Four-Set Match with IU Kokomo

WILMORE, Ky. --  The Asbury University volleyball team fell in four sets at home to IU Kokomo in River States Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

AU played well and battled the defending RSC Champions all afternoon, but ultimately fell in four sets by scores of 25-22, 25-27, 25-22, 25-12.

Asbury did a great job of attacking early on to apply pressure on IU Kokomo's outside hitters. The Eagles had an opportunity to take the opening set as they led 21-19, but the Cougars would surge ahead late to claim the set 25-22.

AU rallied from an early 11-5 deficit in the second set and eventually tied things up at 22-22 later on. A kill from Hailey Jordan and then an error on IUK gave AU the set 27-25.

The Eagles were right in the mix again in the third set and momentarily led 14-12, but once again, the Cougars got things going quickly and won the next five points to retake the lead. Asbury was unable to snag the lead back in the set.

IUK carried their third-set win momentum over into the fourth as they quickly built a lead at 7-2. The Cougars would extend their lead out to 20-11 and then won five of the next six points to claim the set and match.

For AU, Hailey Jordan tabbed 17 assists, 11 kills, and 12 digs.

Senior Jessie Sandefur led the Eagles in digs with a total of 34. Charis Wieschaus and Kandace Eligio each logged seven digs apiece.

Lizzy Rempel, Mari-Grace Alexander, and Julia Thompson all posted eight kills each. Asbury logged 44 kills as a team in the match.

Freshman Taegan Montgomery led Asbury with 18 assists. AU tacked on seven blocks throughout the match as well.

Asbury is back in play on Tuesday at Midway at 7 PM.
