WILMORE, Ky. – A season-high 11 goals powered the Asbury University men's soccer team to a dominating victory over Carlow on Thursday night in River States Conference play.
AU was victorious 11-1, as they improve to 3-8 on the year, but more importantly pick up their first conference win as they jump to 1-2 in league play.
The last time the Eagles scored in double figures was back in 2017.
Asbury wasted little time in getting their offense going Thursday as
Noah Welch's header put the Eagles on the board in the third minute of play.
The Eagles dominated the pace of play all night, as they out-shot Carlow 21-5.
Following Welch's score, an own goal pushed Asbury ahead 2-0.
In the 17
th minute,
Owyn Howard kicked in a goal from inside the box off an assist from
Neil Lumm as the Eagles pulled ahead comfortably 3-0. One minute later,
Sammy Abraham joined the scoring column with the fourth goal of the contest.
Once the 21
st minute of play began, AU would then score three goals in the next three minutes to take full command at 6-0.
Isaac Amaya scored twice off assists from
Mauricio Vasquez and
Neil Lumm, while Abraham scored on a breakaway goal for a 7-0 edge.
The Eagles still weren't done as
Sam Henderson would score in the 30
th minute and
Antoine Yongbang in the 34
th minute.
Zachary Robbins' PK goal in the closing minutes of the half gave Asbury a 10-1 cushion.
Howard would score again in the 75
th minute for the final goal of the match.
Howard and Amaya both collected two goals while Lumm and Vaaquez both tallied two assists.
Asbury will look to continue their winning ways as they are back on the pitch on Saturday afternoon against Point Park at 3:00 PM.
