WILMORE, Ky. -- The Asbury University men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision on Saturday to Point Park at home in River States Conference play.
AU moves to 3-9 on the year and 1-3 in league play. PPU is 3-0 in RSC action and 9-1 on the season.
The Pioneers scored the first goal of the match in the 13
th minute for a 1-0 advantage.
However, Asbury was able to tie up the contest as
Noah Welch connected on a successful penalty kick in the 18
th minute of action.
Late in the first half, PPU retook the lead on a header scored off a corner kick for a 2-1 lead. The Pioneers led 2-1 at the break.
Welch had a great look midway in the second half to try and tie up the match again, but his shot hit the top of the crossbar and the Eagles were unable to answer on the second shot off the rebound, as it landed wide.
PPU's final goal of the match came late in the second half in the 83
rd minute for a 3-1 lead.
Asbury placed 10 shots in total in the match with six on-goal. Point Park collected 19 shots throughout the duration of the contest.
Welch led the offense with a team-high five shots.
Sam Henderson finished with two shots on-goal.
Seth Good recorded eight saves at goalie.
The Eagles return to play next Saturday at IU East in Richmond, Ind at 7:30 PM.
