NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Asbury University men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Brescia on Saturday evening in River States Conference play.
Saturday's match was played at West Jessamine High School due to heavy rain throughout the day in the area.
Brescia took a 1-0 lead with a goal scored on a header in the 16
th minute. The Bearcats would score again in the 40
th minute, right before halftime to take a 2-0 lead.
Asbury applied heavy pressure offensively throughout the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The Eagles had several quality looks on-goal in the second half, but Brescia's defense and keeper stepped up and made several critical stops down the stretch.
Fionn McCartan and
Trevor Matthews' header shot attempts were well placed, but were saved by the BU keeper to prevent the Eagles from getting on the board with 18 minutes remaining.
AU fired off five more shots in the final four minutes, including a shot that landed off the post from Dunsyn Adeliyl, but were unable to score.
Asbury out-shot Brescia 17-15 in the match and placed 12 shots on-goal.
Noah Welch led the Eagles' offense with a team-high four shots in the match. Following Welch, was
Micah Schneider who tabbed three shots, two of which landed on-goal.
Nash Philogene recorded two shots on-goal.
Brian Wood posted six saves in the loss.
AU will host Ohio Christian next Saturday at 5 PM.
