WYOMING, Mich. – The Asbury University men's basketball team dropped its 2019 season opener 95-72 at Grace Christian on Friday evening in Wyoming, Mich.
Asbury (0-1) was out-rebounded 51-29 and had a tough time all night slowing down the Tigers' offense. Grace Christian shot 52 percent from the floor and were efficient down low, scoring 62 points inside the paint.
Caleb Bonny led AU in scoring with a team-high 18 points. The freshman was 6-11 from downtown in the loss.
Leander Ridgeway recorded a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Eric Powell also scored in double figures with 11 points on the night.
Siah Holifield and
Drew Delatte both scored nine points each, and
Desmond Duke notched eight points. Holifield led Asbury with five assists, while Duke dished out four. Delatte collected seven rebounds.
The Eagles shot 26-70 from the field and were 14-40 from three-point territory. Additionally, AU scored 12 points off turnovers and converted on six second chance points.
Asbury will look to rebound at Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing at 3 PM tomorrow.
