CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Asbury University men's soccer team fell 3-2 in overtime at Cincinnati Christian University on Thursday evening in River States Conference action.
AU moves to 5-11 on the season with the loss and is now 2-5 in conference play.
After a scoreless first half, CCU scored the first goal of the contest in the 53
rd minute for a 1-0 advantage.
Asbury responded with a goal in the 57
th minute as
Sammy Abraham connected on his fourth goal of the year.
However, Cincinnati Christian would re-take the lead back with another score 10 minutes later.
AU began to chip away with several shot opportunities to try and tie up the game.
Four shot attempts later,
Noah Welch scored his ninth goal of the year in the 83
rd minute on a headed ball off a deflection from the CCU goalie to tie up the game at 2-2.
Neither team was able to break the tie in the closing minutes as the game went into extra time.
In the first overtime period, CCU would score the game-winning goal in the 92
nd minute to win the match.
Despite getting out-shot 10-8, the Eagles posted seven shots on-goal. CCU also held the edge in corner kicks, 4-2.
Welch and
Micah Schneider each tallied two shots on-goal.
Fionn McCartan,
Sam Henderson, and
Sammy Abraham all recorded one shot on-goal.
Brian Wood tabbed three saves at goalkeeper in the loss.
The Eagles will look to bounce back at home on Saturday against Brescia. Saturday's match is slated for a 5 PM start.
