Volleyball Collects Road Win at Kentucky State

FRANKFORT, Ky. --  The Asbury University volleyball team picked up a non-conference road win at Kentucky State on Monday evening in Frankfort. The Eagles won in four sets over the Thorobreds (26-24, 18-25, 25-20, 25-14).

AU improves to 9-10 on the year with the victory.

It was a competitive opening set that went back-and-forth the entire way. KSU pushed ahead 24-22 before the Eagles closed out the set by winning the final four points.

Kentucky State evened up the match after winning the second set 25-18. Asbury struggled and only held a .054 hitting percentage for the set.

The Eagles led for a majority of the third set and looked to pull away, but Kentucky State stormed back to take the lead at 20-18 later on. AU once again stepped up and finished the set on a big note by winning the final seven points.

AU played flawless in the fourth set as they committed 0 errors. Asbury never trailed in the set and held an 8-3 lead early on. KSU cut the lead down to 12-10 but Asbury went on an 8-1 run to lead 20-11.

A kill from Lizzy Rempel sealed the set and match for the Eagles.

AU was active up at the net all evening as they recorded 49 kills as a team and a .220 hitting percentage. Leading the way for Asbury was senior Lizzy Rempel, who finished with 12 kills.

Julia Thompson collected 10 kills, while Hailey Jordan added seven.

Mari-Grace Alexander and Bethany Fye tabbed five kills each, while Shelby Larson and Bethany Laue posted four apiece.

Jessie Sandefur totaled a team-high 13 digs and Kandace Eligio finished with eight.

Jordan led the Eagles in assists with 20 and three service aces. Taegan Montgomery notched 11 assists and three aces as well.

AU finished the match with 11 service aces in total and six blocks.

The Eagles will travel to Kokomo, Ind. for an RSC matchup with IU Kokomo on Friday evening.
