WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University volleyball team won its fourth straight match on Friday evening as they swept Ohio Christian (25-13, 25-16, 25-13) in River States Conference play.
Asbury improves its overall record to 8-9 on the year with the victory and also moves to 5-3 in conference action.
The Eagles dominated the entire match on Friday evening and quickly established their presence right from the start. AU played well all over the court and totaled 14 kills in the opening set. Asbury won the final six points of the opening set, as
Hailey Jordan's kill gave AU a 1-0 edge.
The second set was much closer early on, but AU ripped off five straight points to increase their lead from 16-13 to 21-13.
Lizzy Rempel ended the set with a kill up at the net.
In the final set of play, Asbury never trailed and wasted no time in building a comfortable lead. After an 8-2 advantage, the Eagles would pull ahead 20-10. Back-to-back kills from Jordan would seal the set and match for Asbury.
AU tallied 42 kills altogether as a team and committed only eight attacking errors throughout the three sets of play. Asbury finished the match with a .366 hitting percentage mark.
Hailey Jordan led the Eagles with a team-high 13 kills and three blocks. Her 13 kills on Friday night marks a season-high.
Mari-Grace Alexander collected 10 kills, while both
Julia Thompson and
Lizzy Rempel notched six kills apiece.
Bethany Fye recorded five kills, two service aces, and a block.
Jessie Sandefur, who won RSC Defender of the Week on Monday, led AU with 25 digs.
Charis Wieschhaus added nine.
Taegan Montgomery led the Eagles with a team-high 21 assists.
Asbury also completed the match with eight service aces.
The Eagles are back in action tomorrow at home against IU East. Saturday's match is slated for a 12 PM start.
