RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Asbury University women's soccer team dropped a tight 1-0 match on Saturday afternoon at first-place IU East in River States Conference league play.
The Eagles move to 4-9-1 and (3-2-1, RSC) with the loss.
It was a challenging day for Asbury as they were out-shot 13-4 and were held to limited opportunities to score.
The Eagles had an opportunity early on in the opening half, but
Jordan Holt's shot attempt landed wide.
AU posted only one shot in the opening half but managed to play tough defense to keep the match scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play.
Asbury had a chance to take the lead in the second half, but a shot from
Cam Davis was blocked.
The Red Wolves scored the only goal of the contest in the 58
th minute for a 1-0 lead.
Elizabeth Sparks led AU with a team-high two shot attempts. Both of her shots came late in the second half and landed wide and high, as Asbury was unable to cut down the deficit.
Jordan Holt and
Cam Davis each finished with one shot apiece.
Jamie Downey logged all 90 minutes at goalie and collected five saves.
IUE held the edge in corner kicks 7-2.
Asbury is back in play at home on Thursday at 5 PM against Midway.
